🌿 Holistic Counselling

Overwhelmed and no one to talk to?

Holistic Psychology Counselling

Some distress does not come from "not knowing what to do", but from having grown used to suppressing your feelings, keeping yourself going, or repeatedly protecting yourself in the same way within relationships and under pressure.

You may feel tired, anxious, low, empty or angry; you know you don't want to go on like this, yet whenever conflict, disappointment or stress appears, you once again fall silent, withdraw, please others, explode or blame yourself. Perhaps you want to change, but you don't know where to begin.

Holistic Psychology counselling offers a safe, respectful and non-judgemental space to accompany you back to the experience that is happening right now: your emotions, bodily sensations, thoughts, behavioural impulses, relationship interactions and life circumstances.

We are in no hurry to label you, give you standard answers, or treat only surface symptoms. Instead, together with you, we come to understand:

  • When this happens, what are you really feeling?
  • What signals is your body sending?
  • How do you habitually protect yourself, move closer to others or pull away?
  • How did these reactions help you in the past? And what impact do they have now?
  • After understanding yourself more fully, what new choices can you make for yourself?

Holistic Psychology takes awareness of the "here and now", authentic dialogue, personal responsibility, contact and boundaries as its central directions. It holds that change does not come from forcing yourself to become someone else, but begins with seeing, accepting and understanding the person you are right now more completely.

✨ Are you going through any of these moments?

✨ Emotions that keep returning, yet are hard to put into words

You may often feel anxious, low, irritable, empty, lonely or numb. You tell yourself "I'm fine", but your body and emotions never seem to truly relax.

✨ Long-term stress is wearing you down

You have been working hard, caring for your family, meeting other people's expectations, yet you are starting to sleep poorly, tire easily, struggle to concentrate, or feel that you are gradually losing motivation and direction.

✨ There are many things you cannot say in your relationships

Whether with a partner, family, friends or colleagues, you may often feel misunderstood or undervalued; or you may suppress yourself, over-accommodate, fear rejection and avoid conflict in order to keep the relationship going.

✨ The same reactions keep repeating

You may notice that you become defensive the moment you are criticised, afraid the moment someone comes close, silent the moment conflict arises, wanting to flee the moment pressure appears, or constantly blaming yourself. Even when you know these patterns are hurting you, they are hard to stop.

✨ The past is still present

Some losses, regrets, hurts, unspoken words or unfinished relationships may seem to be behind you, yet they are still re-triggered in certain situations, bodily sensations or relationships.

✨ You are facing a life change

Changing jobs, relocating, a breakup, divorce, losing a loved one, becoming a parent, caring for family, changes in health or a shift in identity can all leave you feeling lost. You need a space to slowly sort out what truly matters to you and what your next step is.

✨ You want to know yourself more authentically

You may not have one clear "problem", but you want to understand your emotions, relationships, bodily signals, life choices and inner needs, in the hope of living more freely and more authentically.

✨ How does Holistic Psychology work?

✨ Returning to the here and now

The holistic approach attends to what you are experiencing right now, rather than only analysing how things unfolded.

When you say "I don't care", the counsellor may invite you to notice: at this moment, does your tone, breathing, gaze and body match those words? When you speak about a certain relationship, is your body relaxed, tense, or wanting to turn away? When an emotion arises, is your first impulse to move closer, argue back, please, leave, or shut down all feeling?

This is not about picking on your performance, but about letting you gradually discover that many important needs, fears and emotions have long been showing up through your body, your silence and your habitual reactions.

✨ From automatic reactions to new choices

Everyone has their own way of protecting themselves, for example:

  • overworking and overcommitting, never letting yourself stop;
  • pleasing others to avoid disappointing them;
  • falling silent, leaving or going cold when conflict arises;
  • using analysis and reasoning to cover over feelings;
  • pushing others away before you get hurt;
  • turning anger into self-blame, shame or numbness;
  • constantly taking care of others, yet finding it hard to voice your own needs.

These ways are usually not your "flaws", but methods that helped you survive and adapt in certain past relationships or environments. Counselling accompanies you in understanding these patterns rather than forcing you to get rid of them; only when you see your emotions, body and choices more clearly can you begin to respond to yourself and others in ways that fit the present better.

✨ Rebuilding contact and boundaries

Holistic Psychology values the "contact" between a person and themselves, others and their living environment. Real connection does not mean having no differences, no conflict, or always meeting other people's needs; it also includes being able to say clearly:

  • "I feel sad right now."
  • "I need a little time to sort things out."
  • "I disagree, but I'm willing to listen to you."
  • "I'd like you to hear me out first, rather than giving advice straight away."
  • "This makes me uncomfortable, and I want to set a boundary."
  • "I want to move closer to you, but I'm also afraid of being hurt again."

Healthy boundaries let a person stay true to themselves while still building more authentic and safer relationships with others.

✨ How does a session work?

✨ Starting with what you most want to talk about

The first session does not require you to have your whole story neatly organised, nor to first decide whether you are "serious enough to need counselling". You can start from the thing troubling you most recently, a relationship, a recurring emotion, physical discomfort, life stress, or simply "I don't know what's wrong with me".

The counsellor will work with you to understand:

  • your current life situation and support network;
  • which experiences most affect your emotions, relationships and daily life;
  • what understanding or change you hope to gain from counselling;
  • what pace, approach and boundaries would help you feel safer;
  • whether the Holistic Psychology approach suits your current needs.

✨ Exploring together through dialogue and experience

Sessions are dialogue-based, and experiential methods may be used when appropriate, according to your wishes and how much you can tolerate. The point is not whether you are doing it "right", but giving you the chance to actually feel and come to know yourself.

Possible methods include:

  • Present-moment awareness: noticing breathing, posture, bodily tension, emotional shifts and impulses.
  • Naming emotions: gradually distinguishing vague "annoyed" or "I'm fine" into disappointment, fear, hurt, shame, loneliness or anger.
  • Parts dialogue: giving different inner parts a chance to be heard, such as "the part of me that has to keep holding on" and "the part of me that really wants to rest".
  • Exploring unfinished experience: creating a safe space to sort through feelings, losses, regrets or relationship events that were never expressed.
  • Relationship and boundary practice: trying out clearly expressing needs, disagreeing, pausing, refusing or moving closer.
  • Rehearsing life situations: practising a difficult conversation, work pressure or an important decision within the session.

✨ Frequently asked questions

✨ Is Holistic Psychology counselling the same as psychotherapy?

This depends on the practitioner's professional qualifications, registration status, service setting and local regulations. Holistic is an approach within psychology and psychotherapy, but titles such as "counselling", "psychotherapy", "coaching" or "consultant" do not mean that every provider holds the same qualifications or can offer the same scope of services.

Before booking, it is advisable to understand the provider's training background, professional registration or accreditation, relevant experience, confidentiality arrangements, fees, cancellation policy, crisis handling and referral mechanism.

✨ Do I need to have a clear problem before I can start?

No. You can come with clear anxiety, relationship difficulties or stress, or simply feeling tired, empty, lost, or hoping for a space to know yourself more authentically. You do not need to explain yourself fully before the first session.

✨ Will the counsellor just give me advice?

The counsellor may, when appropriate, offer observations, questions, resource directions or discuss workable options with you; but the holistic approach generally does not have the counsellor decide how your life should go. The emphasis is on helping you hear your own feelings, needs, values and boundaries more clearly, and to make choices with greater awareness.

✨ How many sessions will I need?

There is no fixed number. The frequency and length of sessions can be discussed together based on the nature of the difficulty, your goals, life pressures, finances and how much you can invest. Some people want to focus briefly on one issue; others prefer longer-term exploration of relationship patterns, identity and life experience. Goals, progress and whether the service still fits should be reviewed regularly along the way.

✨ Is what I share confidential?

Generally, counselling should clearly explain the principle of confidentiality, how records are handled, who can access your information, and the exceptions to confidentiality. Confidentiality may be limited in situations such as immediate risk of self-harm, harm to others, abuse, serious safety risk, a court order or a legal requirement to disclose. The specific arrangements should be explained by the provider before sessions begin, with the opportunity for you to ask questions.

✨ Can sessions be held online?

Whether online sessions are suitable depends on your location, privacy environment, connection stability, the severity of your difficulty, and the provider's professional arrangements. If you choose online, you should make sure you have a relatively private space where you are unlikely to be disturbed; in cases of serious crisis or immediate safety risk, local emergency or face-to-face support should normally take priority.

✨ Professional boundaries

This service can offer general counselling, self-exploration, emotional awareness, relationship and boundary support, discussion of stress and life adjustment, and appropriate referral to resources.

This service does not replace psychiatric, clinical psychology, medical or emergency crisis services; nor does it provide medical diagnosis, medication, statutory psychological assessment, legal advice, or clinical services that must be performed by licensed professionals.

If you are experiencing immediate risk of self-harm, harm to others or suicide, are having hallucinations, delusions, severe insomnia or difficulty maintaining basic daily functioning, or are facing domestic violence, sexual violence, abuse or any other immediate safety risk, please contact local emergency services immediately, go to the emergency department, or seek qualified psychiatric, clinical psychology and crisis support services.
